Either during the usual dental checkup or because symptoms bother the patient, the dentist can diagnose and heal (sometimes) local diseases of the mouth on the oral mucosa, the bones of the jaw, the temporomandibular joint, the tongue, salivary glands, skin lips. These include, for example, oral tumors, cysts, precancerous lesions, stomatitis, ulcers, salivary glands’ stones, sinusitis etc.
It is a fact that many body diseases have oral manifestations. A well- trained dentist is able to recognize anything not ordinary in order to propose the patient other medical specialists for examination and treatment. Oral manifestations may present diabetes, anemia, leukemia, infections such as syphilis and herpes, skin diseases such as psoriasis, autoimmune diseases such as lupus, etc.
